Detailed Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed and greeted by our safari guide/driver; he will brief you about the safari and later drive you to your booked accommodation in Kigali for relaxation dinner and an overnight at (Luxury) Mile Collins, (Mid-range) Kigali Serena Hotel, (budget) Step down Hotel

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest, Southern Rwanda
In the morning after breakfast, the guide will pick you at the lodge/hotel and drive you to the south western part of Rwanda to Nyungwe forest national park with, en route visit to the Mirambi Genocide memorial site and the King’s Palace, have lunch in Butare and later continue with the drive to the park for relaxation, dinner and an overnight at Overnight stay at Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Gisakura Guest House

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe forest
In the morning after breakfast, you will assemble at the park headquarters in Gisakura for short briefings about the dos and don’ts about the chimps. After escort the ranger guide to the forest to begin the search of our closest relatives the chimps sharing almost 98% of human genes. the time taken while searching the chimps is unpredictable although it can go from 1-6 hours in the jungle searching them, meeting them depends on where they last spent their night from and once they are met you are only allowed one hour with them. You will meet other primate species like the black and white colobus monkey, baboons, civet monkey, grey checked manga bay among others plus very many species of birds. Retire back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch in the evening you can opt for nature walk or visit the tea estate around the park. Overnight stay at Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Gisakura Guest House

Day 4: Cross over to Bukavu in Congo
On this day after breakfast, embark on the transfer to DR Congo after breakfast in preparation for the next day’s lowland gorilla trekking crossing the Rwanda Congo Border to Bukavu Town which takes about 2 hours. You can opt to first enjoy a boat cruise at Lake Kivu to Idjwi Island or visit the museum at Bukavu with lunch en-route. Overnight stay Orchides Mbayo / Coco Horizon

Day 5: Low land gorilla trekking
Start with a morning breakfast at the lodge before you set to the Tshivanga Visitor Centre to receive short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with these low land gorillas and also get you assigned to the ranger guide. After, escort an armed ranger guide to penetrate the forest following the well-attended to trails. like mountain gorillas the time taken to meet the low land gorillas is also un predictable however it can last between 2-6 hours and once they are met you are allowed at least an hour in the presence of the lowland gorillas. After the activity return to the lodge for relaxation and later drive back to Rwanda’s Lake Kivu shore for an overnight at Kivu Serena Hotel / Paladis Malahide.

Day 6: Boat cruise on Lake Kivu
A morning breakfast is followed with a boat cruise to the coffee Island; you will have a chance to observe the local brewing of banana beer and the banana gardens. After return back to the shores for lunch and in the afternoon drive to Kinigi up to the lodge for relaxation dinner and an overnight at. Overnight stay Mt Gorilla View Lodge | La Palme Hotel. Day7: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park
After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters to receive short briefing from the park wardens about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas as well as get you assigned to the ranger guide and the gorilla family. After, head to the forest to begin the search of mountain gorillas. it’s a breathtaking moment to be among the 8 members allowed per group to trek the gorillas, sit among them listen to them grumble and marvel at the cheer full male silver buck, it’s a wonderful moment in life very difficult to forget. Return to the lodge for relaxation, and then in the evening, you will go for a cultural walk to Iby’wachu for cultural visit and learn more about the Banyarwanda culture/ visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera. After the activity, return back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)/La Palme Hotel (Deluxe)/Muhabura Hotel (Budget).

Day 8: Visiting Dian Fossey Graveyard and transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, you will enjoy a trek to visit the graveyard of Dian Fossey a prominent primatologist who studied the behaviors of mountain gorillas for over 18 years. She habituated the mountain gorilla to human standards that they can now be met without any harm caused to human. She conducted her research center in Karisoke. After come back to the lodge for refreshment and lunch and then in the afternoon transfer back to Kigali, if your departure flight is in the evening, enjoy a city tour and visit some of the interesting places around the city visit the Gisozi genocide memorial site and the handicrafts shops then in the evening connect to the airport for your return flight back home.
