In your comfortable hotel, you will be picked up by our expert and will join other guests on the morning briefing involving knowing the gorilla trekking rules. The briefing session is entirely done by the park official and should be attended by everyone because this is the moment when gorilla families are allocated. Even the Park ranger guide to accompany you on a trek will be assigned to you on this day.
The actual gorilla trekking with the lead of a Volcanoes National Park ranger guide starts at around 8:00 am. This is likely to go for 2-6 hours, but this is not fixed, as it can also go for longer hours or shorter than you expected. The length of the trek varies depending on your hiking and the location of the gorillas.
But the most magical moment is the one hour given to you. This is a moment to observe gorillas, their behaviors, body gestures, and take photos –a good reason you also need a good camera with a strong battery and adequate space.
Expect to walk back from the lush bamboo or rainforest after appreciating the magical encounter with mountain gorillas. Meet the safari driver guide to take you to the classic hotel/lodge for relaxation. Leave the lodge after a delicious lunch, and today’s afternoon includes an Iby’Iwacu cultural tour.
Note: Volcanoes National Park is located in the Ruhengeri or Musanze, Northwestern Rwanda, and is part of the popular Virunga Conservation Area. Over 30% of the world’s 1063 mountain gorillas are housed safely in this Protected Area. Gorilla trekking sessions begin from the Kinigi, and there is a lot to learn. The trek is unpredictable, and we recommend you come with packed snacks and water to keep you fit and hydrated.
